Notes on the IDTA Syllabus

The syllabus to the left is the most recent iteration, taken from the
Professional and Amateur Dance Syllabus published by the IDTA,
last amended in February 2010. All competitions prescribing the
IDTA syllabus use this list of figures.

Competitors should always check which step list they must
adhere to. We cannot be held responsible for reprimands or
disqualifications based on following an incorrect list.

Unlike the ISTD syllabus, we have had to leave the Additional Figures
to the end due to the fact that there is no indication at which level
they are to be danced.

Alternative entries to Promenade Position:
While IDTA syllabus does not specifically list alternative methods
of achieving Promenade Position, the Precedes and Follows in Guy
Howard's The Tango and Basic Principles do correspond to the
examples shown here.

The Outside Swivel and Reverse Outside Swivel
The IDTA syllabus lists three types of Outside Swivel:
Outside Swivel to Right, Outside Swivel to Left, and the
Reverse Outside Swivel. For the sake of clarity, we have
combined these into the following two pages:

1. Outside Swivel (Right and Left)
2. Reverse Outside Swivel

The Reverse Four Step
As with the Five Step, the Four Step has a traveling, reverse
turning variant: the Reverse Four Step.
