Title: The Chase (Endings b) & 2.)
Level: Gold (ISTD), (IDTA)
Timing: (SQQQQ)(...)(See Notes)
Rotation: Up to 3/4 Right.
Notes
The Chase is not listed in our 1955 or 1966 editions of The Revised Technique
by Alex Moore. However, it is prominently featured in his Popular Variations:
It is outlined in Tango Variation #35, and is featured in amalgamations #16,
#34, #36, #37 and #38. We surmise that the popularity of the Chase won it
a place in the Ballroom Technique.

ISTD Alternative Endings
In the Ballroom Technique, the Chase has several endings that can be danced after step 5
(Man's LF Backward, Lady's RF Forward Outside Partner). There are two base endings [a) & b)]
and four alternative endings [1. 2. 3. & 4.].
Base Endings
a) The Lady rotates ⅞ to Right over steps 3-6. Step 6 is thus: Man's RF side, small step to
Promenade Position (Lady's LF to side, RF placed side without weight in PP). (S)
b) The Lady rotates ⅝ to Right over steps 3-6. Step 6 is thus: Man's RF side, small step to
Closed Position (Lady's LF to side). Follow with Progressive Link. (S)
Alternative Endings
1. Chassé to Right, RLR, cross LF behind RF in PP into Whisk. RF forward and across in PP and
CBMP, place LF to side in PP without weight. (Q&QSQQ) or (Q&QQQS)
2. Chassé to Right, RLR, cross LF behind RF in PP into Whisk. RF forward into steps 2-3 of
    Promenade Link. (Q&QSQQ) or (Q&QQQS)
3. Chassé to Right, RLR, cross LF behind RF in PP into Whisk. Close RF to LF and place LF to
side in PP without weight. (Q&QS&S)
4. At a corner: Chassé to Right, RLR, into Progressive Link. (Q&QQQ)

IDTA Syllabus Endings
The Chase outlined Guy Howard's The Tango and Basic Principles ends with the Base Ending a)
as written above. Furthermore, there are two alternative endings provided for the Chase.
Both are danced after step 5.

i) Chassé to Right, LF crossed behind RF in Fallaway Position. (Q&QS)
ii) LF crossed behind RF in Fallaway Position. (S)
