Notes
The Drop Oversway [IDTA: Tilt Oversway]
Both the Ballroom Technique and The Tango and Basic Principles provide
an alternative styling the Oversway: the Drop Oversway or Tilt Oversway.

Both begin as a regular Oversway with the Man's LF forward (Lady's LF back),
two pivots to the Left (up to ¾ turn)(QQ). Entering the oversway action, the
body is tilted to the Man's left (Lady's head is right).

The position is held with feet in place, whereupon the Man's left knee is
sharply flexed and the sway is changed to Right (Lady's right knee sharply
flexed, sway and head changed to Left).

As neither technique book indicates how this alternate styling is to be exited,
we presume that the Drop Oversway and Tilt Oversway may use any of the
endings listed in their respective section below.

Exceptions: German dancers competing D-Class/C-Class syllabus standard
under DTV rules must observe the following exceptions:
a) Not Permitted are 23. Oversway and 28. Contra Check.

ISTD Alternative Endings
In the Ballroom Technique, the Oversway has several endings that can be danced after step 4
(Man's L knee flexes,  Lady's R knee flexes). There are six base endings [1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.]
and three combination endings based on the Spin to Right [7-3, 7-4 & 7.5].
Base Endings
1. Transfer weight to RF and place LF to side in PP without weight. (QQ)
2. Close RF to LF and place LF to side in PP without weight. (&S)
3. Chassé to Right, RLR, cross LF behind RF in PP into Whisk. RF forward and across in PP
and CBMP, place LF to side in PP without weight. (Q&QSQQ) or (Q&QQQS)
4. Chassé to Right, RLR, cross LF behind RF in PP into Whisk. RF forward into steps 2-3
of Promenade Link. (Q&QSQQ) or (Q&QQQS)
5. Chassé to Right, RLR, cross LF behind RF in PP into Whisk. Close RF to LF and place LF
to side in PP without weight. (Q&QS&S)
6. Spin to right, RLR, up to a complete turn, then place LF to side in PP without weight. (QQQQ)
Combination Endings
7-3 Spin to right, RLR, up to a complete turn, Chassé to Right, RLR, cross LF behind RF in PP
into Whisk. RF forward and across in PP and CBMP, place LF to side in PP without weight.
        (QQQ&QSQQ) or (QQQ&QQQS)
7-4 Spin to right, RLR, up to a complete turn, Chassé to Right, RLR, cross LF behind RF in PP
into Whisk. RF forward into steps 2-3 of Promenade Link. (QQQ&QSQQ) or (QQQ&QQQS)
7-5 Spin to right, RLR, up to a complete turn, Chassé to Right, RLR, cross LF behind RF in PP
into Whisk. Close RF to LF and place LF to side in PP without weight. (QQQ&QS&S)

IDTA Syllabus Endings
The Oversway outlined Guy Howard's The Tango and Basic Principles has two possible entries
[A & B] and four possible endings [I. II. III. IV.].

Entries to the Oversway
A. The regular entry to the Oversway beginning with the Man's LF forward (Lady's LF back),
two pivots to the Left (up to ¾ turn)(QQ) into Oversway action (SS).
B. Omitting the two pivots, dance Oversway action (SS) directly following a Closed Finish or
     Promenade Link ended DW.

Endings to the Oversway
I.   Transfer weight to Man's RF (Lady's LF) in PP. (S)
II.  Transfer weight to Man's RF, cross LF behind RF in Fallaway Position (Promenade Position)
(Lady transfers weight to LF, cross RF behind LF). (No timing given).
III.  Chassé to Right, RLR (Lady's LRL), ending in Closed Position. (No timing given).
IV. Spin to Right, RL (Lady's LR) ending in Closed Position. (No timing given)

Note: For endings III. & IV., no steps, footwork, timing, or endings are given. We have tried to
provide the most logical summary of the Oversway as it is written in The Tango and Basic Principles.
