Notes
Alex Moore and Guy Howard note in their respective techniques that the
lock step action is the same forwards and backwards for both the Man
and the Lady. The term Back Lock is choreographic shorthand for the combination of a Man's backward locking action with a Lady's forward locking action.

The Back Lock as part of other Amalgamations
The Back Lock is part of several basic amalgamations that have
merited separate sections in both technique books:
-Natural Turn and Back Lock (ISTD)
-Natural Turn, Backward Lock Step and Running Finish (IDTA)
-Zig-Zag, Back Lock and Running Finish (ISTD)(IDTA)

As our aim is to break each amalgamation into its smallest usable parts,
we have listed the Back Lock individually.

2-4 Forward Lock
Several figures, most notably the Tipple Chassé to Left, and the
Tipsy to Left, already include the first step of the Back Lock. In this case,
the Back Lock will begin with the Man's RF back (Lady's RF diagonally forward).

Bridge Step
Both the Ballroom Technique and The Quickstep and Basic Principles permit a Bridge Step (Man's LF Backward OP) into a Tipsy to Right.
