Notes
The Cross Swivel is listed as Gold in both the ISTD and the IDTA syllabus, and is used primarily as an entrance to the Fishtail. This is the only aspect upon which the Precedes and Follows of both technique books seem to agree. In fact, Alex Moore and Guy Howard seem to have two different ideas about what is to happen after the Cross Swivel: ISTD The Ballroom Technique includes a Step 3 of the Cross Swivel, taken with Man's RF Forward OP. The next figure should then be taken backwards for the Man (forwards for the Lady) into a Natural turning figure such as the Tipple Chassé to Right, Running Finish or Tipsy to Right (see below). IDTA The Quickstep and Basic Principles follows Steps 1-2 of the Cross Swivel with a Bridge Step (Man's RF Forward OP). The next figure should then be taken forwards for the Man (backwards for the Lady) into any Reverse turning figure. Bridge Step (S) Both the Ballroom Technique and The Quickstep and Basic Principles make use of a Bridge Step in the following exit combinations: -After Step 2: Man's RF Forward OP into any Reverse Figure (IDTA) -After Step 3: Man's LF Backwards into Tipsy to Right (ISTD) Abbreviated Timing As shown in Videos 4 & 5 below, the Cross Swivel can also be danced to the count of one (S). This technique is reserved for non-syllabus competitors, as it is mentioned in neither technique book. |
